Diamond Round-Up: Lady Rangers pick up road win, Happy Valley baseball falls to Providence

Unaka loaded and made the trip to Mountain City where the Lady Rangers topped Johnson County 4-2 in nonconference action.
The Lady Rangers got to work in the first innings as Unaka’s Madison Pierce reached on a leadoff single before teammate Sarah Tipton was walked. The two were then brought home by a 2-RBI single by Lady Rangers Erika Potter, giving Unaka a 2-0 edge after one.
The second and third innings were scoreless. The scoring drought was ended by Johnson County as Lady Longhorns Emmy Miller, who had reached on a single, came to the house off an RBI single from teammate Maddi Edington to cut the Lady Rangers lead to 2-1.
Unaka’s Katlyn Weaver started the second with a double left field before Erika Potter reached on a walk. Both Weaver and Potter crossed the plate on a 2-RBI single from Lady Rangers Madison Ensor, pushing Unaka out to a 4-1 lead.
Johnson County’s Bella Miller plated a run in the sixth to cut Unaka’s lead to two runs.
The Lady Rangers had eight hits on the day with Erika Potter and Pierce each recording two hits apiece.
Unaka’s Corie Scheuttler worked the circle for a complete seven innings. Scheuttler fired in 73 strikes across the plate as she retired ten batters. The senior had six hits and two runs against her.

Providence 9, Happy Valley 2
The Warriors had a rough time inside Cannon-Gouge Park Thursday as they hosted Providence Academy for a nonconference showdown.
Behind 13 hits, Providence rolled past Happy Valley 9-2.
After four, Happy Valley trailed Providence 8-1 with the Warriors Travis Whitson hitting an RBI double to score teammate Hayden Holtsclaw.
Providence scored one more run in the top of the sixth before Happy Valley’s Kevin Whitaker scored Warriors Will Hampton with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
The Warriors worked through six pitchers throughout the contest.
At the plate, Happy Valley had six hits with HV’s Bailey Conley, Hampton, Whitaker, Nolan Easlic, Holtsclaw, and Whitson all recording a hit each.
