Sequatchie County High School has hired Mark Wattenbarger as its new football coach.

Wattenbarger comes to Sequatchie from Stone Memorial, where he had two undefeated regular seasons in the past three years. The last time the Panthers failed to qualify for the state playoffs was 2012.

"We had tried to hire him before, but then we realized he had some family issues to clear up," Sequatchie principal Tommy Layne said. "This time it was a no-brainer. His record speaks for itself."

Wattenbarger succeeds Adam Caine, who recently accepted the head coaching position at Upperman. Caine guided the Indians to a 26-10 record in his three seasons as head coach that also included an undefeated regular season in 2016 and the advanced to the playoffs each year.

"The last three years Adam did a super job," Layne said. "We hated to lose him, but I think we came out OK."
