Former Christ Presbyterian star Braxton Key leaving Alabama basketball

Former Christ Presbyterian Academy standout Braxton Key is leaving Alabama after two seasons. 

Key, who has two years of eligibility left, has not said where he will transfer. He announced his decision to leave Alabama on his Twitter account.

"This was not an easy decision to make," Key said in a statement released by Alabama. "I've enjoyed my two seasons at the University of Alabama. I want to thank the coaches, support staff and my teammates for helping me get better each and every day. I especially would like to thank all the fans for their support over the past two years."

The 6-foot-8 forward originally form Charlotte, N.C., made the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2016-17.

He missed the first 10 games this past season after having knee surgery, but was able to return and start the last 17 games. He averaged 7.0 points and 5.3 rebounds while helping the Crimson Tide post a 20-16 record.

"I met with Braxton on Thursday and had a good talk with him," Alabama coach Avery Johnson said in a statement. "Braxton certainly has a bright future, but he has to do what's best for him. We wish him nothing but the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Key played at CPA through his junior season. He played his senior season at Oak Hill Academy.

He was a four-star recruit by 247Sports, Scout, ESPN and Rivals.

Key was a two-time Class AA Mr. Basketball in Tennessee.

He averaged 20.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists while leading CPA to the state championship in 2015, two semifinal appearances and a combined 103-10 record over the three seasons.
