Chester County becomes new No. 1 in boys soccer Elite Eight after Week 6

A look at the top high school boys soccer teams in West Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Sports network. Teams eligible come from The Jackson Sun’s 13-county coverage area –Madison, Gibson, Henderson, Chester, Hardeman, Haywood, Crockett, Weakley, Carroll, Benton, Decatur, McNairy and Hardin counties.

1. Chester County (7-0) – The Eagles are undefeated on the season, and they are top of the District 14-AA standings. With a win over Lexington Monday, they will secure the No. 1 seed in the district tournament. This week: Monday at Lexington; Tuesday vs. Milan; Thursday vs. Hardin County. Last week: No. 4.

2. Sacred Heart (5-1-1) – What a week for the Knights as the picked up two 2-1 wins over the other two Division II-A teams in Jackson. This week: Monday at Fayette Academy; Tuesday vs. North Side; Friday vs. Madison. Last week: No. 5.

3. USJ (12-2) – Dealing with injuries, the Bruins suffered two losses in Division II-A play before ending the week with a win over Jackson Christian. Now they prepare for the Best of the West this week. This week: Wednesday vs. Dyersburg; Thursday vs. Henry County. Last week: No. 1.

4. McNairy Central (6-1) – The Bobcats showed their potential with a 6-1 win over North Side to improve to 5-1 in District 14-AA play. They are looking at the No. 2 seed in the district tournament. This week: Tuesday vs. Adamsville. Last week: No. 6.

5. North Side (6-2) – The Indians went from the verge of clinching the District 14-AA No. 1 seed to taking two losses to sit a 4-2 in district play. They will try to rebound this week in the Best of the West tournament. This week: Tuesday vs. Sacred Heart; Thursday vs. Madison. Last week: No. 3.

6. Jackson Christian (8-3) – The Eagles lost to both Jackson Division II-A teams this week, and with a loss to ECS this week, they would be the No. 4 seed in the district. This week: Thursday at ECS. Last week: No. 2.

7. Lexington (6-4) – While the Tigers picked up a forfeit a win this past week, they have one key district game this week before playing in the Best of the West tournament. This week: Monday vs. Chester County; Tuesday vs. Westview; Friday vs. TCA. Last week: No. 8.

8. Madison (5-6) – The Mustangs got a one-goal win over the team that dropped out of the rankings for the right to jump back in. This week: Monday at Middleton; Thursday vs. North Side; Friday vs. Sacred Heart. Last week: Not ranked.

Dropped out: Haywood (5-2).

On the bubble: TCA (4-2); Crockett County (7-6); Westview (4-5-2).
