St. Benedict's E.C. Taylor wins fans' vote for high school girls athlete of the week

E.C. Taylor of St. Benedict is the winner of this week's fans vote for high school girls athlete of the week.

Taylor, a junior who has verbally committed to play softball at Florida, earned 47.23 percent of the votes (3,219 total) after collecting three hits, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs in the Eagles' victory over Jonesboro.

Second place went to Breanna Miles of Southwind, who won the 400 at the Volunteer Track Classic in Knoxville in a state-best time of 56.00. Miles finished with 2,717 votes or 39.87 percent.

Rounding out the voting were Taylor Smrt (Collierville softball), Makayla Pugh (Munford softball) and Chari Rice (Tipton-Rosemark softball).

A new poll will be posted online Monday.
