Milan's administration didn't have to look far for its girls basketball coach after naming Kendall Dancy the boys basketball coach on April 18.

Dancy will be pulling double duty this fall as he coaches both the boys and girls basketball teams at Milan.

"Other coaches that I know coach both, and there was a vacancy with the girls team at Milan," Dancy said. "After talking with Milan principal Greg Scott, this is a challenge that I am up for."

Dancy replaces Larry Eddings, who is now the girls basketball coach at Sacred Heart.

The Lady Bulldogs were 10-18 last season with a 2-8 mark in District 13-AA play. They lost to Obion County in the opening round of the district tournament.

Dancy met the Milan girls on Tuesday for the first time.

"I did a lot of listening," Dancy said. "We talked of where they have been and what direction we want to go in."

Dancy does have experience with girls basketball as he did some individual instruction and summer ball teams on the girls' side early in his career.

Taking over two programs that had losing records last season, Dancy has some work ahead of him.

"Both programs have kids with a real desire to get better," he said. "Milan principal Greg Scott and director of schools Jonathan Criswell are on board and behind both programs. They are ready to support to get them on a competitive level and then a championship level."

In his seven years at Haywood, Dancy led the Tomcats to a 170-59 record, winning 74.2 percent of the games he coached in. He led them to two state tournaments, and Haywood reached the region semifinals in five of the seven years.
