Caitlin Hollifield leaves CAK for West girls basketball

Caitlin Hollifield is introduced as West's new girls basketball coach.

After four years at CAK, Caitlin Hollifield is making a change. She is heading to West and taking over the girls basketball program.

"There's a real buzz about West right now," she said. "I feel I can really help build up this program."

Hollifield led CAK to the state quarterfinals last season, where the Warriors fell to University School of Jackson, with a record of 22-12. In four years, Hollifield was 65-52 and in her six years of coaching she is 105-65.

It was a hard decision to leave CAK because of the relationships Hollifield has built there and the school gave her a chance to grow in a lot of ways, but this feels like what she is supposed to do.

"I think the girls are really hungry for success," she said. "And they want someone to love on them."

Hollifield started coaching immediately after she finished her playing career ended at Western Carolina University. She spent two years at Powell, her alma mater, before going to CAK.

Hollifield said looking back, at 23 years old, she didn't have a clue what she was doing. The three biggest things she's learned since then are to have patience, that every player is different and you have to have relationships with the players.
