In a thriller, Hampton kept the season alive.

The Bulldogs picked up a 7-6 victory over Sullivan North in a back-and-forth battle in the District 1-A tournament losers’ bracket semifinals.

Hampton advanced to Wednesday’s losers’ bracket final against University High – which will be played at 6p at David Crockett.

It was a thrilling game from the first pitch.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning, and Hampton edged ahead in the second as Collin Morgan hit a double, and sacrifices by McKinley Kuhn and Brody Hicks plated the run.

After the Raiders tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third, Hampton’s Chance Point was able to score to push HHS back into the lead.

North, however, countered with a run of their own in the home side of the frame.

Josh Owens and Caleb Royston scored in the sixth inning for Hampton, but North took a 6-5 lead into the final inning after playing three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Hampton, however, kept on battling.

Morgan Lyons hit a double that scored Point to tie the game, and Lyons scored off an RBI groundout from Owens to give Hampton the lead.

The Bulldogs limited North in the bottom of the seventh to advance.
Point finished the game 2-for-3, while Owens and Kuhn both recorded two RBI and a hit.

Josh Whitson had a strong showing on the mound for Hampton, and Owens picked up the win to close the game out.
