Romping to a 77-31 victory over Stewart County on Tuesday in Dover gave the Henry County High School boys’ basketball team its seventh straight victory.
The Patriots will carry an 11-2 record into their first District 14-4A contest of the season on Friday at Kenwood High School in Clarksville. Varsity play begins at 6 p.m. on Friday with the girls’ contest and the boys’ game will get underway around 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the Lady Patriots and Patriots play host to McKenzie starting at 2 p.m. at Gamlin Gymnasium. The Saturday games are makeups from a Nov. 22 postponement because both schools were involved in the football state playoffs.
PATRIOTS 77, REBELS 31
Henry County raced out to a 24-10 first-quarter lead as Jackson Hayes scored six points, including a 3-point basket. The Patriots also got five points and another 3-pointer from Brice Donaldson while Caden Marshall added four more points.
A 26-10 scoring run in the second period built Henry County’s lead to 50-20 at halftime. Jayce Kendall exploded for 10 points in the second period, including two 3-point baskets. Marshall tossed in six more points while Hayes added five with another 3-point shot.
The Patriots had similar production in the third period as a 22-10 scoring edge pushed the HCHS lead to 72-30. Javion Boyd scored eight points, including two 3-point baskets. Maddox Jenkins came off the bench to score five points, including a 3-point field goal, for the Patriots.
Scoring slowed for both teams in the fourth stanza with Henry County’s 5-1 advantage making the final score 77-31. Dalton Raymer sank the Patriots’ 12th 3-point shot of the game.
Hayes topped the Patriots’ scoring list with 15 points while Kendall chipped in 13. Donaldson added 11 while both Marshall and Boyd contributed 10 points each. Jenkins finished with five while Kayden Kendall scored four and Raymer had three. Scoring two points each were Chandler Scott, Carson Curd and Colby Stallings.
Stewart County got 12 points from Jacob Morgan. Sawyer Wallace hit for eight points with D.J. Tourigny scoring seven. Bradley Brainard finished with four points.
