Jackson Christian picked up where it left off from last week’s big win to pick up another, this time 63-24 over Fayette Academy (1-4, 0-2).
The Eagles (5-0, 1-0 Division II-A West) were led by the Austin Kelley-to-Jay’Len Mosley connection, as Mosley caught three touchdown passes on the night. He caught two of them in the first quarter to help the Eagles go up 28-0 quickly then another in the third quarter to put the Eagles up 49-10 and get the mercy rule running clock going.
Kelley had two other touchdown passes – one to tight end Daniel Green for four years and the other to running back East Jones for nine yards.
Jones also had a 66-yard scoring run in the second quarter.
A few young Eagles got to score in the fourth quarter. The first one came when Elijah DeMoss passed to Blake Rowland for a six-yard touchdown.
Everett Scott had a 14-yard run to finish the scoring for the home team.
Region 6-4A
Hardin Co. 38, North Side 7
Any thought the Indians (2-3, 1-1) might’ve had about competing for the region championship were severely hindered when they fell to the Tigers (5-0, 2-0) at home.
Hardin County scored 28 points before halftime before the Indians scored in the opening seconds of the second half. But they could never get back into the end zone the rest of the night while Hardin County would score 10 more points for the big win.
Chester Co. 27, South Side 0
The Eagles (1-4, 1-0) scored a touchdown in each quarter while holding the Hawks (2-3, 0-1) to the shutout in both teams’ region opener.
It was also Chester County’s first win of the year.
Region 7-3A
Ripley 48, Liberty 6
The Tigers (4-1, 3-0) scored all of their points before halftime, and the Crusaders were able to move it down field well enough to get the score in the second half.
Region 6-2A
Milan 44, Jackson Central-Merry 16
The Cougars (1-3, 0-2) went into the second quarter up 16-6, but the Bulldogs kept JCM from scoring the rest of the way while putting 38 more points on the scoreboard throughout those final three quarters.
Non-region
South Gibson 28, University School of Jackson 6
The Hornets (3-2) were up 14-0 before the Bruins (3-2) could get on the scoreboard.
But when they did, that was all the scoring they could do as the Hornets would hold them to that scoring production while putting 14 more points on the board. The loss is two straight for the Bruins after winning their first three games.
