The Lady Yellow Jackets shut out Marion County 3-0 Monday in Jasper.
GCHS (7-8) bested the Warriors 27-25, 25-14 and 25-12 in straight sets. Scarlett Walkden and Ashlynn Anderson led the offense with five and four kills, respectively, while senior setter Kimber Thomas collected nine assists. Peyton Meeks added four aces to the victory.
The win over the neighboring county’s rivals put Grundy back in the wins column after it fell in back-to-back matches to Signal Mountain and Soddy Daisy.
The Lady Jackets dropped a 3-0 decision to Signal Mountain at Ricky Richards Gym last Tuesday. Walkden scored on three solo blocks, and Stormi Nunley snuck in two aces despite the loss.
GCHS took one set from Soddy Daisy last Thursday in a 3-1 loss to the Trojans. Grundy claimed a 25-23 victory in the third set, but SDHS won the other three stanzas 25-17, 25-9 and 25-7. JuJu Witt had a season-high 12 digs in the district contest.
The Lady Jackets played Sequatchie County on Tuesday and Boyd Christian on Wednesday, but scores were not available at press time.
GCHS hosts the JV Battle on the Mountain play day Saturday, Sept. 23 at Ricky Richards Gym. Times are to be announced. The varsity squad returns to action Monday, Sept. 25 to host Marion County at 5:30 p.m. The team visits Franklin County on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season at home against Hixson on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m.
