A total of 32 teams competed in the Class A-AA boys’ cross country championship race in Hendersonville last Friday, and Madison Academic finished 12th.
They were the second-highest team from rural West Tennessee, behind Camden, who finished No. 8.
Signal Mountain, which is just outside Chattanooga, was the championship-winning team with six runners finishing in the top 30 and the seventh finishing in the top 60 to run away with the championship.
Madison’s top five runners finished in the top 100 finishers as a total of 259 competed in the race.
Senior Kaden Moseley led the Mustangs with a time of 17:33.64. Ryan Presson, a sophomore, was next for Madison at 18:08.45. Fellow sophomore Austin Wright finished at 18:16.04. Logan Baker crossed the finish line in 18:27.03. Caleb Santosh, a junior, was right behind him at 18:31.61. Harrison Kayal returned to the start in 19:07.13, while Austin Stannard beat the 20-minute mark with an official time of 19:58.29.
There were only three others from Madison County who competed in state championships, but they finished well.
In Division II-A boys, Miles Johnson finished 13th overall for University School of Jackson to finish his high school career with a time of 17:22.96.
In Division II-A girls, USJ freshman Addyson Kirkland finished 18th overall with a time of 21:02.17. Trinity Christian’s Stella Barnett, also a freshman, finished No. 55 overall with a time of 23:59.13.
