Germantown had just scored to tie the TSSAA Class 6A football quarterfinal three minutes into the second half on Friday night. Houston had a quick response.

Chandler Day threw his second touchdown of the night to Andre Allen, which was set up by a 58-yard catch from Shawne Jones. The Mustangs wouldn’t surrender the lead again, stunning Germantown in the TSSAA football playoffs 30-10 on Friday night.

They’ll travel to the Nashville area to play at Brentwood (13-0) next Friday night.

The win gives the Mustangs (11-2) their 10th straight win of the season and lands them in TSSAA semifinals for first time since 2019. Despite playing a Germantown (12-1) defense that allowed more than 20 points just once all season, the Mustangs flexed their explosive offense once again.

Day, a junior quarterback, didn’t get rattled after throwing a first-quarter interception. He responded with three touchdown passes and leading an offense to score 30 points on one of the area’s top defenses.

And his favorite target Friday night, Jones, erupted for 135 yards and six catches with a touchdown. Jones caught the final touchdown of the night, which helped Day break another school record in as many weeks.

Last week, Day broke the career touchdown passes with 56 and set the single season record Friday night with 32.

Friday night was a much different outcome than the 14-13 defensive battle the first game was in Week 3. Houston struggled to get the ball in the end zone during that game, but found a way to correct that this game.
