With winter winds whipping away outside in Chattanooga, and temperatures dropping lower and lower, basketball season now feels like it’s in full swing. The East Hamilton Hurricanes boys’ and girls’ basketball teams traveled on Tuesday night to take on the Red Bank Lions programs. Both games would end similarly with the victor of each game winning by a healthy cushion of points.

The East Hamilton girls’ team would open up the night with a 52-point win over the Lions, a final score of 68-16, while the East Hamilton boys would drop their matchup to Red Bank by double digits, losing 46-82.

Leading the way for the Lady Hurricanes was sharpshooting guard, Arianna Calhoun. Calhoun in the first quarter was virtually automatic from behind the arc. She would make three threes, including an absurd half-court stroke that would rip nothing but the bottom of the net as the first-quarter buzzer rang out. Calhoun would go on to finish with a game-high five three-pointers. Her hot shooting would be a big reason why her East Hamilton team was able to put this game away early.

Another key contributor for the Lady Hurricanes was combo-forward Noa Woodruff. Woodruff opposite of her teammate Calhoun would do her damage inside. She was huge in getting second-chance points for her team, along with just consistently scoring around the rim. She would score a game-high 22 points and would do it all without making a three.

The Lady Lions showed great defensive effort early in this game, but the combination of fatigue setting in and high-level play from their opponent proved to be too much for them to overcome in this matchup.

The East Hamilton boys’ team was hanging around come the halftime horn, but a dominant third quarter from Red Bank put this game to rest.

A manageable 15-point lead for Red Bank coming out of the locker room would soon grow rapidly, and it was a team effort through and through. Second chance points, forcing turnovers, and attacking the paint was the formula for success. These feats would equate to a massive 24-5 quarter win for the Lions, putting the game out of reach for the Hurricanes.

Forward for Red Bank, Anthony Bronner, would finish with a game-high 24. Bronner was scoring at will in the mid-range and in the paint. Guard for the Lions, Quintaris Tanner, stole the show in the fourth quarter scoring eight points and piling up steals in the process. His energy was contagious during his stint and was the cause of some loud cheers and roars from the crowd late in the game.
