Unaka came up short on Saturday night.

The Rangers fell 89-71 to North Greene in the District 1-A Semifinals at Happy Valley on Friday night.

With the loss, Unaka moved into Tuesday’s consolation game against Cloudland, while North Greene will take on University High in the Championship game.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the early going.

After North Greene scored the first five points of the game, Marcus Shomaker and Mason Wilson hit back-to-back shots to even things up at 5, and then the duo combined for a 5-0 run to give Unaka a 9-7 lead three minutes into the game.

The Huskies, however, answered with a 7-0 run to regain the lead, and both teams traded shots to end the quarter as NG held a 24-17 lead after a quarter of play.

Logan Lewis opened the second quarter with an Unaka trey, but NG was able to extend the advantage to 11 points midway through late in the quarter.

Austin Lambert and Rylan Crabtree hit shots for the Rangers to trim the deficit back to nine points before Jason Britton hit a trey for North Greene to give the Huskies a 45-33 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the teams continued to trade shots to begin the quarter before NG used a 10-2 run to get some separation and took a 76-52 lead into the final quarter.

Unaka continued to battle in the final quarter but was unable to rally.

Crabtree led Unaka with 25 points, while Shomaker scored 16 points. Wilson added 10 points.

Lambert and Shomaker scored nine points apiece.

Bennett McClain scored 36 points to lead North Greene, while Britton had 28 points.
