It was a brutal district tournament outing for the Fayetteville Lady Tigers last week. They dropped the semifinal matchup to Moore County 59-9, and the consolation game against Huntland 65-43.
First up was the semifinals Tuesday Feb. 13 against the Moore County Raiderettes, the No. 1 seed who finished the regular season 21-8.
In the two games City and Moore County played against each other during the regular season both won on home court. The Raiderettes won first 65-35, then Fayetteville 47-46.
Round three was for a ticket to the district championship game. It started slow in the first quarter with Moore County up 9-3 at first period’s end.
Then things went south quickly for the Lady Tigers in the second quarter with Moore County ahead at the half 25-5. The Raiderettes cruised to victory with a massive win 59-9.
Fayetteville’s next task was the consolation game Friday night against the Huntland Lady Hornets. The two schools met twice in the regular season with Huntland winning both times, once by nine and the other by 15.
The Lady Hornets made their intentions clear on claiming win number three with a fast start in the first half. They led 33-16 at halftime and then put it out of reach in the third with a 26-11 quarter. Huntland went on to win 65-43.
Kaydan Parks led Fayetteville in the game with 10 points. Next in line were Kyliah Simpson and Kallie Morris each scoring nine points.
In district awards Simpson was named to the All-District team for the regular season. Parks was selected to the All-Tournament team.
Fayetteville now stands at 9-12 entering a win or go home game. They’ll hit the road for round one of the region tournament Friday night to take on the winner of Richland and Cornersville.
