Arcentae Broome has been hired as Antioch’s football coach, Metro Nashville Public Schools athletic director Mark North confirmed to The Tennessean on Monday.

Broome went 15-18 at Overton the past three seasons. He led the Bobcats to the first round of the Class 6A TSSAA playoffs in 2021 and 2022. They finished 2-8 last fall.

Before Overton, Broome was at Maplewood for 11 years and led the Panthers to the Class 4A state semifinals in 2018. He is a 1993 Stratford graduate.

He replaces Devin Arnold, who helped bring Antioch back to relevance in two seasons there. The Bears snapped a 22-game losing streak and their 4-7 season last fall was the program’s best since 2013. They made the Class 6A playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Arnold became Lipscomb Academy director of football operations in December after Jamie Graham was hired as the new football coach.

Antioch hasn’t had a winning record since 2012, when it finished 6-5, but key players are scheduled to return this fall. Freshman quarterback Andre Adams was 141-for-245 for 2,002 yards and 19 touchdowns, and also ran 85 times for 677 yards and 11 TDs.

Ta’khyian Whitset, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end and offensive lineman, is a rising senior with offers from Vanderbilt, Purdue, Liberty, UAB and Ball State.
