615 Preps Boys Basketball Rankings: Brentwood Academy, PCA fall short title games

0 0

It was a year of silver for our area Division II teams as both Brentwood Academy and PCA finished as state runners-up. Last week also saw several teams move one step closer to heading to Murfreesboro while others saw their seasons end.

All of those results naturally brought some changes with this week’s large and small class rankings.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.

Rankings are based on overall success and current form for each teams. While teams may have beaten each other earlier in the season, we look at the current form of teams compared to each other.

With that in mind, here’s a look at this week’s 615 Preps large and small class boys rankings:

Large Class

1 Hillsboro (24-3): The Burros made light work of the Region 6-4A tournament beating Green Hill 56-38 in the semifinals before beating Beech 67-44 for the region title.

2. Pope John Paul II (26-5): In a foul-ridden contest, the Knights saw their season come to an end with a 76-53 loss to Briarcrest Christian in the DII-AA semifinals.

3. Brentwood Academy (24-8): The Eagles made their way back to the DII-AA title game after beating Knoxville Webb. They couldn’t repeat though as Briarcrest Christian’s inside game was too much for them to overcome in an 80-71 loss.

4. Independence (29-6): The Eagles went through a pair of district foes to win the Region 5-4A title. They led wire-to-wire in a 60-51 win over Franklin and kept the momentum going with a 65-49 win over Brentwood in the championship.

5. Hume-Fogg (23-4): MLK gave the Blue Knights all they handle in the Region 5-3A semis with Hume holding on for the 47-44 win. They capitalized on that win a few days later with a 62-54 win over Portland in the region championship.

7. Beech (25-7)

8. Brentwood (19-11)

9. Creek Wood (21-8)

10. La Vergne (22-11)

Small Class

1. Whites Creek (22-5): The Cobras had their offense clicking in a pair of double-digit wins over LEAD Academy and East Nashville. They scored 93 in a 23-point win over LEAD and beat the Eagles 78-62 for the Region 4-2A title.

2. PCA (27-5): The Lions start in Cookeville looked promising as they beat ECS by 14 in the DII-A semifinals. They looked well on their way to the title leading FACS for most of the night before collapsing in the fourth quarter en route to a 57-55 loss.

3. Cannon County (24-7): Some last-second heroics by Eli Pelham kept the Lions’ season alive in a 58-55 win over Loretto. Cannon Couhty followed that win up by beating Mt. Pleasant 68-61 for the Region 5-2A title.

4. Eagleville (21-8): CJ Goers was Eagleville’s hero in its 51-48 win over Richland sinking the game-winning three as time expired. No game-winner was needed a few days later in their 64-56 win over Santa Fe.

5. White House Heritage (20-10): Dominant would be the best word to describe the Patriots’ performance in their 62-43 win over Liberty Creek in the Region 3-2A semis. They weren’t as dominant against Jackson County but still did more than enough to win the region title 58-49.
