Lady ‘Landers See Season End In State Quarterfinals

Cloudland was unable to extend their incredible season on Wednesday night.

The Lady ‘Landers dropped a 54-31 decision to Pickett County in the Class A Quarterfinals at the BlueCross Basketball Championships inside the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro.

With the loss, Cloudland ends the season with a 28-2 mark.

Pickett County opened the game on a 6-0 run before Ryan Turbyfill knocked down a 3-pointer and Makinna Shell hit a jumper to pull CHS within one. After the Lady Bobcats stopped the run with an Ella Kesisling jumper, Izabella Christman and Shell hit back-to-back shots to give Cloudland a 9-8 at the midpoint of the first quarter.

Emmy Lowe and Keisling added points for Pickett County to end the quarter to take a 12-9 lead after a quarter of play.

Makenzie Street countered a Pickett County bucket in the opening minute of the second quarter, but the Lady Bobcats were able to push the lead out to 10 points three minutes into the frame.

Street added her second shot of the quarter while Shell hit a jumper, but Pickett County continued to hold the moment.

Christman scored and converted an old-fashioned 3-point play to end the half as the Lady ‘Landers trailed 33-19 at the half.

The Lady ‘Landers continued to battle, but Pickett County went on a 14-2 run with Shell adding the lone Cloudland bucket in the third quarter.

A pair of Shell free throws ended the quarter as CHS trailed 47-23 after three complete.

In the fourth quarter, Saharra McKinney scored quickly for the Lady ‘Landers while Shell hit a 3-pointer for a Cloudland run. Turbyfill added a 3-pointer later in the quarter, but Cloudland was unable to make a rally.

Shell led Cloudland with 13 points, while Turbyfill ended the game with six points. Christman tallied five points and 10 rebounds, while Street scored five points.

McKinney had eight rebounds for CHS.

Lowe led all scorers with 23 points for Pickett County, while Zoey Nicolas had 13 points.

As a team, Pickett County was 22-of-40 (55%) from the field, while Cloudland was 12-of-46 (26%) from the floor.
