The Trousdale County High School baseball team will be led by four seniors this year, but several freshmen could see significant playing time. The players heading into their last season of wearing the purple and gold will be Devan Walford (All-District 2023), Parker Day (Columbia State signee) Kobyn Calhoun and Colton Key.

“Our guys have put in some work and are growing,” TCHS Coach Davey Cothron said. “The basketball guys are still behind, but we are ready to hit the ground running.”

Cothron is entering his 15th year coaching baseball at his alma mater and is also working with three juniors, four sophomores and eight freshmen.

Key is working through back issues, but will anchor the defense at catcher. Day, who is coming off Tommy John surgery, will play first base once he has completed his rehab and will spend the first two to three weeks as the designated hitter.

Calhoun is finally back after two labrum surgeries that have kept him out of baseball the past two seasons. He will play second base, hopefully gaining enough arm strength to slide over to shortstop and will be the leadoff hitter for the offense.

The schedule is highlighted by a spring break trip to East Tennessee to play Oliver Springs, Greenback and Coalfield, while sliding in a tour of the University of Tennessee baseball complex.

The Jackets are now in District 6-2A along with White House-Heritage (2023 A State Tournament), Liberty Creek and Westmoreland.

“Baseball is the hardest sport on the planet,” Cothron said. “I’ve been in this long enough to know that it’s about growth because once postseason begins, it’s all about which team has grown the most and the hottest at the right time. Let’s roll!”

The Jackets are slated to play at Monroe County, Kentucky on Monday and host Christian Community on Tuesday. Admission for the home games will be $5.
