The Trousdale County High School softball team will get its 2024 season underway on Monday with a trip to Red Boiling Springs, and seven-year head coach Blake Satterfield knows his young ladies have a lot of potential.

“We have a great group of girls this year,” Coach Satterfield said. “They work hard and realize what my expectation is for them this year and use that as motivation each day.

“Last year, I believe we were one of the top five teams in Class 1A, but, unfortunately, our road to the state tournament went through number three Jo Byrns and state champion Gordonsville. This year, we have our work cut out for us going from Class 1A to Class 2A. Liberty Creek is in our new district, and there are rumors of them being a contender for winning the Class 2A State Championship in late May.”

The Lady Jackets will look to their five seniors for leadership in Kindle Berry, Bailey Hines, Willow Jones, Maddie Lee (Bryan College signee) and Taryn Simmons. Hines and Simmons were all-district last year, and Lee was the MVP. Juniors Emma Holder and Kayleigh Dunn were also all-district in 2023.

The Hartsville girls went 13-10 last year and 3-1 in District 8-A, good enough for a first place tie. They eventually lost 6-1 at Gordonsville in the regional tournament.

The Lady Jackets are scheduled to play their first home game on Wednesday when Jackson County comes to town for a 5:30 p.m. start. On Thursday, they will hit the road to Baxter to face the Upperman Lady Bees.
