Mark Price has stepped down as Baylor School's boys' basketball coach after six successful seasons with the Chattanooga program.

Price, who has coached for 26 years total, including time as an assistant at Division I Belmont University in Nashville prior to taking over the Red Raiders, will remain on staff as the school's athletic director.

"I am stepping aside from coaching with incredible gratitude for all the players and coaches at Baylor and beyond that I have been blessed to work and compete with for the last 26 years," Price said in a news release announcing the change Thursday. "While I will miss coaching, the progression and upcoming growth for our athletic department, its facilities, teams and coaches will require an enhanced administrative presence. I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve Baylor in this capacity."

Baylor said a search to find his replacement has already begun.

"As the school continues to develop a campus master plan that includes ambitious facilities improvements and a focus on the continued growth and success of our nationally recognized program, Mark's responsibilities will be increasing," Chris Angel, Baylor's head of school, said in the release. "I always refer to him as the 'head coach of the head coaches' and I am grateful we have a man with his expertise and character to lead our athletic program."

Price added AD duties in 2020 and has overseen a department of 26 varsity upper school teams and their head coaches.

He compiled a 107-45 overall record during his time as boys' basketball coach for Baylor, with the Red Raiders winning the Times Free Press Best of Preps tournament three times and reaching the TSSAA Division II-AA state semifinals twice during his tenure.

Baylor was ranked No. 1 in DII-AA by MaxPreps for a good portion of the 2023-24 season before finishing 21-6 with a loss in the state quarterfinals last month.

Before coming to Baylor, Price coached at the collegiate level for 20 years, including helping Belmont reach the NCAA tournament three times as well as the NIT three times. The Bruins also won six consecutive conference championships during his seven seasons on staff.

The change at Baylor came just two days after McCallie basketball coach Steve Robison announced he was stepping down after two seasons leading the Blue Tornado. That leaves openings at two of the more premier programs in Chattanooga.
