Alyssa Petty led the scoring for the Lady Falcons with 16 points in their first-ever appearance in the Blue Cross State Championship Basketball Tournament. Making it to the final eight Class 4A teams in the state, the ladies went down to Cleveland High School, 60-44. After getting off to a slow start the ladies cut the margin to 2 points in the third quarter but could never get over the hump. They finish their season with a 25-10 record.
The Lady Falcons’ season officially came to a close last Wednesday afternoon. Lincoln County lost in the first round of the state tournament to the Cleveland Blue Raiders 60-44.
Cleveland entered the day with a 23-9 record and one of the top players in the state. Her name is Lauren Hurst, a four-star prospect ESPN has rated the 47th best recruit in the entire nation for the 2025 class.
Lincoln County went to Murfreesboro for the first time as a participant in program history. The Lady Falcons walked into the Murphy Center to play on the state’s biggest stage.
The first quarter was nip and tuck for the first five minutes with Lincoln County down two. Then Cleveland flipped a switch to go on a 12-5 run the last three minutes. The Blue Raiders led 21- 12 at first quarter’s end.
The second quarter belonged to Lincoln County 11-10, but Cleveland still led at halftime 31-23. Though the Lady Falcons had forced nine turnovers to their one, Cleveland shot 52% overall compared to Lincoln County’s 33%.
Lincoln County started the third quarter strong, cutting the lead down to 34-32 with under three minutes to go. But Cleveland hit an 8-2 run in the remaining time to extend their lead to 42-34 going into the fourth.
The final quarter was nearly identical to the third. The Lady Falcons cut the lead down to four before Cleveland hit another small run to extend their lead. It took the wind out of Lincoln County’s sail, and the Blue Raiders won by 16.
Cleveland’s 48% shooting outdid the Lady Falcon’s 30%. The Blue Raiders also compiled 18 more rebounds and made 11-14 free throws to Lincoln County’s 8-19.
Alyssa Petty led the Lady Falcons with 16 points along with three steals and a block. Abby Bryan scored 11 points to go with a team high eight rebounds.
