Taking part in the “Playing for a Cure” showcase at TVA Credit Union Ballpark, Providence Academy’s baseball team got off to a fast start with three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in a 13-2 win over Knox West.
Merritt Runnels had two hits and an RBI while Tine Bowman notched a pair of RBIs to lead the Knights (1-2) to their first win of the season. Drew Niebauer also had two hits and scored twice. The Knights collected 11 hits.
Mason Macdonald struck out six and picked up the win.

GRAY — The Trailblazers (2-1) came out firing on all cylinders with a three-run first inning.
Graham Jones had two hits, including a triple, as well as three runs scored.
Slader Tinker got the win on the hill, as he pitched five innings of two-hit, shutout ball. He also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate.
University High 9, South Greene 2
GREENEVILLE — A perfect night at the plate from River Kindle powered the Buccaneers (1-3) to their first win of the season.
Kindle went 4-for-4 with two steals and two RBIs, both coming on a second-inning single.
Knox Poston started on the mound for UH, allowing just one run and striking out six in 4⅔ innings.
Dobyns-Bennett 19, Sullivan East 4
BLUFF CITY — The Indians (3-0) had eight out of nine starters record a hit, with six of them with multiple knocks.
Andrew Reilly had four RBIs on the night off three hits, including a two-run double in a four-run second inning.
Bradley Anderson got the win in relief, tossing two perfect frames with three strikeouts.
Tennessee High 18, West Ridge 1
BRISTOL — Jimmy Phipps picked up the win and Dayne Musick went 4-for-4 at the plate for the victors.
Musick crushed a home run out of Todd Houston Memorial Stadium and so did teammate Ashton Leonard.
West Ridge 8, Hampton 0
BLOUNTVILLE — Miranda Henley tossed a no-hitter for West Ridge over five innings with 13 strikeouts.
Kami Clark homered in the first inning for the Lady Wolves and her squad never looked back after that. Clark ended the day with three hits and two runs scored.
West Ridge scored five runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.
Dobyns-Bennett 18, Unaka 0
ELIZABETHTON — Sophie Dean dominated both at the plate and in the circle for the Tribe (2-0) in a run-rule victory over the Lady Rangers.
Dean went 2-for-4 with four runs driven in, including a second-inning home run. She also only allowed one hit across the three innings.
The entire Lady Indians offense was firing on all cylinders, as they scored four runs in the first, nine in the second and five in the third.

BRISTOL — Pitching proved dominant for the Lady Vikings’ (2-0) in the conference opener.
Tazewell, Va., transfer star pitcher Carly Compton went the distance in the circle, only allowing one run on one hit. She also recorded 13 strikeouts while only walking one batter.
Madisyn Hall carried the load offensively, having a perfect 2-for-2 day and driving in both Tennessee High runs.
Elizabethton 10, Johnson County 0
MOUNTAIN CITY — Lela Byrd was solid in the circle for the Lady Cyclones, striking out 12 and picking up the win while giving up two hits.
Sadie Williams had a three-run home run that scored Piper Bennett and Emma O’Quinn. O’Quinn tallied three singles.
Unicoi County 9, John S. Battle 7
BRISTOL, Va. — The Lady Blue Devils (1-1) went north of the state line to collect their first win of the season with two runs in the seventh.
Aaliyah Engle led the way with the bats, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored.
Kianna Woodward also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with three runs and a two-base hit.
Grainger 2, Providence Academy 1
RUTLEDGE — Maddux Smith’s goal was not enough for the Knights, as they fell in a road match to Grainger.
The Grizzlies (1-1-0) two goals were enough to be the first team in District 2-AA to secure a victory.
Sullivan East 2, Cherokee 2
ROGERSVILLE — Grant Giles found the back of the net both times for the Patriots, one assisted by Blake Paducah, while Will Phillips made 11 saves.
Elizabethton 2, Unicoi County 1
ERWIN — Drake Teague scored the winning goal on a Thomas Lambert assist in the final two minutes to give Elizabethton the district road win. Riley Vernon got the Cyclones’ first goal on a penalty kick.
Keilet Rodriguez scored for the Blue Devils.
