Franklin County's Kaitlyn Montgomery slides into home plate during a game Monday at Moore County High School. Montgomery had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the 15-3 loss.
The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Moore County Raiderettes 15-3 on the road Monday for their seventh loss of the season.
The Raiderettes put together high-scoring first and third innings to put the Rebelettes in a deep hole, and the game ended after four innings due to the mercy rule.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said Moore County was the more aggressive team for the day and capitalized on a few defensive mistakes from the Rebelettes to take control of the game early.
“We’re a pretty young team, but I don’t think that we can continue to use that as an excuse. I think we’ve got to clean it up on defense and make the plays when they come to us because hits are going to happen,” she said. “We can’t make it easier on the other team by giving runs away.”
The Raiderettes had nine of their first 10 batters reach base in the bottom of the first with six ultimately coming around to score.
The Rebelettes did all of their scoring in the top of the second as Kaitlyn Montgomery hit an RBI single to score Raelyn Wainwright from second base, and Jocilyn DeSmet scored from first on the same play due to an error.
Montgomery later advanced to third base and raced home on a wild pitch to make it a 6-3 game in the early stages of the contest.
After a scoreless second inning for Moore County, the Raiderettes put up seven runs in the bottom of the third with four of those runs coming with two outs in the frame to bring the deficit up to 13-3.
The Raiderettes scored the last two runs needed to trigger the mercy rule in the bottom of the fourth as the Rebelettes lost by 12.
Miley DeSmet was the starting pitcher for the Rebelettes and recorded one out with one strikeout, two hits, five walks, five earned runs and one unearned run allowed.
Kaylee Morris pitched the remaining three innings for Franklin County with three strikeouts, 10 hits, four walks, six earned runs and three unearned runs allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 0-7 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Tullahoma High School. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
