For the second straight year, Brentwood Academy guard Tyler Tanner has been named the Gatorade Tennessee Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

The 6-foot, 160-pound Vanderbilt signee averaged 26.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.3 assists this season while leading the Eagles (25-8) back to the Division II-AA state championship game. He also captured the DII-AA Mr. Basketball award.

Tanner is Tennessee's first repeat winner since former Cane Ridge and Alabama star Brandon Miller. The Charlotte Hornets rookie won the award in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Tanner is a three-time TSWA All-State selection and a three-time Mr. Basketball finalist. He's ranked as the No. 29 point guard in the country and the No. 4 overall player in Tennessee by the 247Sports.

Tanner has played for Brentwood Academy since his eighth-grade year. During his tenure, the Eagles have four 20-win seasons and he's won 120 games with a state championship in 2023. The Eagles lost to Briarcrest Christian in the DII-AA title game March 2. It was Tanner's fourth straight trip to the DII state tournament and his third state championship game appearance.

He'll join a Commodores program that is in the process of finding a new men's basketball coach. Vanderbilt announced that the university and coach Jerry Stackhouse had agreed to part ways March 14. Within days of Stackhouse's departure, several Vanderbilt players announced plans to enter the transfer portal.
