The Tullahoma High School baseball team picked up their seventh win of the season on Monday against Franklin County, shutting them out 3-0.
Evan Tomlin was on the bump for the ‘Cats and he threw a complete game shutout. Tomlin allowed just two hits and four walks, while striking out 10 batters. He threw 101 pitches and faced 28 batters in the seven innings of work.
The game was a pitchers’ duel, as both teams only earned a base eight times. Tullahoma walked twice, got five hits and had one batter hit by a pitch. Franklin County walked four times, had two hits and had two batters hit by a pitch. Andrew Fulmer continued his streak at the plate, picking up two hits in the game. Tomlin, Baylan Tuten and Mason Bratcher recorded the other three hits. Bratcher had the lone RBI. Tuten and Bratcher drew the walks for the ‘Cats. Colton Emory was the Tullahoma player hit by pitch.
The win over the Rebels makes the Wildcats 7-3 on the season and 1-0 in district play. Going into the week according to the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association, Tullahoma is the fifth ranked 3A school in the state.
Over the weekend the ‘Cats hosted Cookeville and lost 7-6. Tullahoma could not overcome the Cavaliers’ four run inning in the third.
Jayron Morris and Tomlin had two hit games. They both led the team in RBI as well with two each. Fulmer, Emory and Derek Nolasco had the other three hits for the Wildcats. Fulmer and Emory smacked doubles. Fulmer and Tuten had an RBI each.
Tullahoma used three pitchers during the game. Bobby Nichols started, Grayson Waller followed and Hunter Hogan finished the contest. All three guys struck out two batters each. Hogan had a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh.
The Wildcats will be in Rutherford County to end this week. Thursday, March 28, they will be at Siegel taking on Niles West at 4 p.m. On Friday, March 29, they will be at Blackman taking on Wauconda at 1 p.m. and then Mason at 3:30. Then on Saturday, March 30, they will play Hilliard Davidson at Smyrna with first pitch at 10 a.m.
