CHARLESTON, S.C. — For the third time in four games, Dobyns-Bennett’s baseball team scored double digit runs Tuesday afternoon.
Mason Barnett certainly finished what he started. In addition to getting the win on the mound, Barnett capped D-B’s fourth-inning eruption with his three-run homer, helping the Indians take down Philip Simmons 16-2.
Barnett pitched the full four innings, striking out two and allowing four hits. But neither of the earned runs came before D-B (9-1) had built a 16-0 lead.
Maddox Martin (2-for-2), Baker Correll and Will Ritz all doubled, with Jackson Bishop and Jaylen Thomas driving in two runs apiece.
West Ridge 8, Cherokee 1
ROGERSVILLE — Peyton Maines struck out six and scattered three hits over six innings to get the win for West Ridge, which scored four runs in the first inning and cruised.
Kade Oliver (double), Morgan Ward, Maines, Josh Seto (double) and Reed White collected two hits each.
Jacob Brooks had an RBI double to lead the Chiefs.
Daniel Boone 8, Tinley Park (Ill.) 1
GULF SHORES, Ala. — Jackson Utsman jumpstarted Daniel Boone’s six-run third inning with a leadoff double, and he finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Tim McGonigle and Slader Tinker both had two hits for the Trailblazers, with Graham Jones and Tinker batting in two runs each.
Jaiden Henry went the distance on the mound, striking out seven in the two-hit win.
SOFTBALL
Dobyns-Bennett 15, Glenbrook North (Ill.) 4
MURFREESBORO — Hailey Porter hit 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring four times in the nightcap as D-B plated 12 runs between the fourth and fifth innings. Allie McConnelee doubled twice with three RBIs. Riley McMillan, Payton Moore and Braelynn Ferrell had two hits apiece.
McConnelee got the win in relief, striking out seven over the late four frames.
Gibson Southern, Ind. 4, Dobyns-Bennett 3
MURFREESBORO — Miley Sperling scored on a two-out wild pitch as Gibson Southern took a walk-off win.
Payton Moore hit a solo home run in the sixth and finished 2-for-4. Julianne Tipton (2-for-3) and Hailey Porter both doubled for the Tribe.
BOYS SOCCER
Volunteer 2, Sullivan East 1
BLUFF CITY — Playing down a man for the final 20 minutes, Volunteer picked up a rain-soaked win at Sullivan East. Cameron Cox delivered the winning goal, after Evan Wilder’s penalty kick in the first half.
Volunteer coach Jeff Lukens also praised Evan Wilder for his play, particularly when the Falcons had to shift from two defensive mids following a straight red card.
Grant Giles scored for East, on a Kingston Stewart assist, while Maxx Horne made five of the Patriots’ seven saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
John S. Battle 6, Union 0
BRISTOL, Va. — Claire Booher scored two goals to lead the way, as the Lady Trojans surged ahead 4-0 at halftime and cruised to a district win.
Adyson Halloway, Ava Wallace, Sandi Jones and Shayla Arnold had Battle’s other goals.
