The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Riverdale Warriors 7-2 on the road Saturday in their third and final game for the Warrior Classic.
The Warriors scored all of their runs in the first four innings as the Rebels weren’t able to overcome a decent early deficit and ended the event with a record of 2-1.
The first run of the day was scored by Franklin County with Graysen McNeese hitting into an RBI groundout to score Casen Gilliam from third base.
However, the Warriors scored a trio of runs in the bottom half of the first to quickly put the Rebels in a 3-1 hole.
The Warriors added one run in the second inning and two in the third to grow the deficit to 6-1 as the contest approached its halfway point.
The Rebels got their second and final run of the day in the top of the fourth with Jacob Hardison drawing a leadoff walk, advancing to second after Taylor Austin walked, moving to third on a wild pitch and scoring on an RBI single from Sam Vincent to make it a 6-2 game.
The Warriors were able to get that run back in the bottom of the fourth to reset the deficit back to five runs at 7-2.
The Rebels loaded the bases in the top of the seventh after Gilliam walked, Gus Gardner got hit by a pitch and Brayden Henley hit a single with one out, but a strikeout and a fielder’s choice ended the inning and the game with none of the runners scoring as the Rebels lost by five.
Hardison pitched the first two innings for the Rebels with four strikeouts, four hits, four walks, three earned runs and three unearned runs allowed.
Gilliam pitched the remaining four innings in relief and ended the day with five strikeouts, three hits, one walk and one unearned run allowed.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 4-8 on the season.
They will next play Monday at home against Marshall County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
