The 615 Preps crew rank their favorite area helmets

0 0

Helmet Madness has come to an end with MTCS coming out on top.

While the fans of each school got a chance to vote on who they thought had the best helmets in the area, our group decided to take an in-depth look at who we like the most.

A few our guys liked the favorites while others liked more unique looks. Here’s what helmets the 615 Preps crew like the most:

Cam Reid

1. Overton: Ever since I joined the team, this has been my No. 1 and no one has changed it yet. The black and red with the Oregon O is straight gas.

2. Gordonsville: The Tigers finally upgraded from the plain ol’ G. The guys over at 97 Sports nailed it with the shiny blue Tigers script with the subtle G’s throughout the middle stripe.

3. Ravenwood: The color scheme for the Raptors may be the best in our area. I have them at 3, but black out the back Riddell plate with gold lettering and it could easily move up my list.

Honorable Mentions: East Robertson, MTCS

Chris Brooks

1. Gordonsville & Lebanon (tie): Both of these teams incorporate the same design with the script wording on the helmet instead of their logo – which in Gordonsville’s case, is a good thing so nobody has to look at that Packers/Georgia Bulldogs-like ‘G’ on the front. That would’ve been a dealbreaker with me. The metallic decals on the helmets are fantastic and perhaps my favorite thing about them.

2. La Vergne: The Wolverines’ black bucket has the Old English ‘L’ on it in blue, and it just works with the black really well.

3. Ravenwood: The Raptor logo on the matte black helmet is one of the best around.

Honorable Mentions: Macon County, Pearl-Cohn

1. Ravenwood: I’ve been a fan of this lid since I first covered the Raptors and no team has taken the top spot away from them yet. The bold Raptor logo on matte black is a clean look and completes my favorite uniform combo of any team in the area.

2. Hillsboro: Admittedly, I hate this design when it comes to Michigan and that may be my bias as a Notre Dame fan. Now the Hillsboro green and yellow mix really stands out and has quickly become one of my favorites to see on a Friday night.

3. Nolensville: If the the Knights had a black helmet with their current logo they’d immediately jump to the No. 1 spot on my list. I still really like what they have now and their logo on the white just pops.

Honorable Mentions: Centennial, Page

Scott Burton

1. Mount Juliet Christian: This original logo with the crossed sabres and halo above the MJCA gleams from its ebony background. The black, blue and gold colors are striking.

2. Lipscomb Academy: Clean and original. The silhouette of the wild and untamed mustang set off against the plum matte finish is unlike anything I have seen. Just a simple LA designates the school. I wish more schools would opt for original works that grab the imagination like this.

3. McGavock: The red and blue of the Red Raider is a unique piece of artwork that calls back the highwaymen of old. The logo gives the impression that you are a of no consequence and easily trampled. Classic colors and a white helmet. Simple, but very effective.

Honorable Mention: Beech, Fairview
