The Tullahoma High School baseball team won their second district game of the season on Monday against Giles County 7-2.
Evan Tomlin was on the bump for the ‘Cats and he threw the complete game. Tomlin allowed just two runs and two walks, while striking out 11 batters. He threw 105 pitches and faced 30 batters in the seven innings of work.
Tullahoma’s offense backed Tomlin by getting 10 hits and drawing four walks to score the seven runs. Andrew Fulmer led the way with three hits and one walk. Fulmer destroyed the fifth pitch of the game to center field for a home run. Baylan Tuten was the other ‘Cat with multiple hits, including a triple in the third inning. Jayron Morris, Mason Bratcher, Hunter Hogan, Trevor Cole and Phillip Lemmon recorded a hit each. Tomlin, Bratcher and Tuten were the players besides Fulmer who walked. Colton Emory took a free base after being hit by a pitch. Bratcher and Lemmon led the team with two RBI. Fulmer and Tuten had an RBI each.
The Wildcats had a busy weekend in Rutherford County playing four games in three days. They went 3-1 in those contests. They started off with an 8-1 win over Niles West. The pitching staff kept the Wolves quiet, allowing just four hits. Morris started it off throwing three innings of three hit ball. He struck out three batters. Bratcher took the ball in the fourth and threw 3.1 innings without allowing a hit. He struck out a pair of batters. Derek Nolasco finished the game off with a strike out.
The ‘Cats got on base 18 times in the games, and had 10 hits, four walks and four batters hit by pitch. Morris and Hogan each had two-hit games, including a double. Fulmer, Emory, Tuten, Cole and Avery Smith recorded the other hits. Fulmer and Emory had doubles. Fulmer, Morris, Hogan and Cole drew the walks. Tuten and Emory were hit by a pitch twice.
The next day started with an extra-inning thriller against Wauconda that Tullahoma won 4-3 in the 11th inning. Hogan walked the game off in the bottom of the 11th with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Tuten. Fulmer, Morris, Tomlin and Tuten all had two-hit games. Bratcher, Cole and Ben Quick had a hit each. Bobby Nichols started on the mound and threw five quality innings. He struck out four batters. Hogan took over in the sixth and threw three no-hit innings with three strikeouts. Quick pitched the last three innings, giving up one hit and striking out two batters.Â
Right after the thriller against Wauconda, Tullahoma played Mason in the second game of a double-header and lost 11-9. The Wildcats fought hard, scoring three in the last frame but they could not overcome the five run fourth inning by the Comets. The ‘Cats scored first, plating two runs in the first inning. Emory hit a double to left field to score Fulmer and Tomlin. Emory, Bratcher and Hogan all had two hits. Fulmer, Morris, Tuten and Lemmon had a hit each. Fulmer and Lemmon’s hit were a double. Fulmer, Morris, Tomlin, Hogan and Cole drew walks. Lukas Taylor started on the mound for Tullahoma and threw 3.1 innings, allowing just four hits. Cade Fanning took the bump on relief and threw the last 3.2. He struck out two batters.
Tullahoma wrapped up the busy weekend with a 16-3 run rule of Hilliard Davison in five innings. The Wildcats offense exploded with 15 hits in the first four innings. Fulmer led the way with four hits. Morris, Tomlin, Emory and Tuten had multi-hit games as well. Bratcher, Lemmon and Cole had the other hits. Tomlin had two extra-base hits, one double and one triple. Emory had a triple. Fulmer and Tuten had a double. Cole, Smith, Hogan and Morris drew a walk. Emory started the game pitching for the ‘Cats and threw two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters. Smith took over and threw the last three innings. He allowed just three hits and struck out one.
Tullahoma will host Lexington Catholic Thursday with first pitch at 6 p.m.
