Eddie Woods has resigned after nine seasons as the Cane Ridge football coach.

Woods created a foundation for the school’s program. He led it to its first 10-win season, first playoff victory and first state championship appearance.

Woods was named The Tennessean’s 2017 Football Coach of the Year. He plans to just teach next school year, he told The Tennessean.

He guided the Ravens to their best three-year stretch from 2016-18. They went 36-4, were the 2017 Class 6A state runners-up and won three consecutive region titles, adding a fourth in 2019.

Cane Ridge started this season 0-5 and finished 2-9, losing to Brentwood 28-7 in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Woods, a Memphis native and Tennessee State graduate, is 92-47 as a head coach in Tennessee. He went 16-17 in three years at Melrose, turning the program around from an 0-10 season to records of 8-4 in 2013 and 8-3 in 2014.
