The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Coffee County Raiders 6-0 at home Saturday for their 10th loss of the season.
Coffee County’s Isaiah Deadman and Beau Murray combined to pitch a no-hitter against the Rebels with a few walks and hit batters providing the only baserunners for Franklin County in defeat.
Franklin County head baseball coach Mike Crossland said that inconsistent offensive production has been a recurring problem for his team, and that trend continued Saturday.
“It’s been the same deal all year. Offensively, we’re anemic,” he said. “We put no pressure on teams offensively. Therefore, we have to pitch almost perfectly to have a chance to win. Until that changes, this team’s never going to get on a roll. Offense fixes a lot of problems.”
Sam Vincent and Braden Jackson drew consecutive walks to start the bottom of the first, but a lineout, an infield fly and a groundout followed to end the inning with neither runner advancing any further.
The Raiders got their first run of the day on a two-out RBI single in the top of the second, and they added two more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to make it a 4-0 game at the contest’s halfway point.
The bottom of the fourth started with consecutive walks again as Brayden Henley and Graysen McNeese reached base on the free passes, but a pair of popouts and a groundout got the Raiders out of the jam and stranded both runners.
The Raiders scored their last two runs for the contest in the top of the fifth off of a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice bunt to put the score at 6-0.
The Rebels put a runner into scoring position once more in the bottom of the sixth as Casen Gilliam drew a walk and McNeese got hit by a pitch with one out in the frame.
However, the next two batters flew out to end the scoring threat, and the Rebels were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh with three consecutive groundouts to end the no-hitter.
Gus Gardner pitched the first 4 1-3 innings for the Rebels with two strikeouts, seven hits, one walk, four earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.
Keylen Partin came out of the bullpen for the next 1 2-3 innings with one hit and no runs allowed in relief.
Boston Benson pitched the final inning for the Rebels with one strikeout, one hit and no runs allowed.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 6-10 on the season.
They will next play Monday at Central Magnet High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
