The Tullahoma High School baseball team hosted Lawrence County on Monday night for a district doubleheader on Military Appreciation night. The team split the two games.
Prior to the first game, the Tullahoma High School Wildcats Company Marine Corps JROTC Color Guard presented the colors for the National Anthem. Cadet Gunnery Sergeant Taiten Brunelle, Cadet Staff Sergeant Tyler Key, Cadet Corporal Selina Gaona and Cadet Sergeant Kiley Arthur presented the colors. Major Nathan Chandler, retired USMC, threw out the first pitch. Then before the second game, Colonel Jasen Vap, 804th Test Group Commander, threw out the first pitch.
Tullahoma lost the first game 4-9 in the eighth inning. The Wildcats led until Lawrence County scratched across a tying run in the seventh to extend the game. The tying run reached after striking out on a wild pitch, he beat the throw to first base. In the eighth Lawrence County hit four singles and then blasted a three-run Homer to center field.
Evan Tomlin started the game pitching for the Wildcats, throwing three innings. Tomlin found the zone on 27 of his 42 pitches. Hunter Hogan relieved Tomlin in the fourth and finished out the game for Tullahoma. He struck out five and threw 55 strikes on 80 pitches.
The Tullahoma offense was helped early by an error that plated the first two run for the team. Then in the fourth inning a pair of passed balls allowed Hogan to score after singling. Baylan Tuten led the team with three hits. Hogan and Trevor Cole each had two. Tomlin had the other hit for the ‘Cats. Colton Emory, Hogan and Tomlin drew a base on balls. Andrew Fulmer and Phillip Lemmon were both hit by a pitch.
In the second game of the double header the Wildcats won 5-4. They outhit Lawrence County seven to five in the game. Fulmer and Lemmon led the way with two hits each. They both had a double as one of their hits. Tuten, Emory and Bratcher had the other hits for the team. Emory also walked twice. Tuten, Jayron Morris and Mason Bratcher took a walk each. Tomlin, Bratcher and Hogan had the three RBI for Tullahoma. Tomlin and Hogan had a sacrifice fly for their RBI. Bratcher’s came on a line drive single in the second inning.
Morris started on the bump for the ‘Cats. He went four innings of one hit ball. He struck out eight batters and walked just three. He faced 18 batters, throwing 77 pitches. Bratcher took the ball after Morris for two innings and struck out one. Tuten closed the game in the seventh inning striking out two.
Tullahoma will travel to Central Magnet on Monday before hosting them Tuesday at 6 p.m.
