Lamson inks with UT Southern

Fred Lamson became the latest RHS student to sign his letter of intent to play collegiate sports as the senior left back defender has signed to play soccer for the UT Southern Firehawks in Pulaski, Tennessee. After moving to Tennessee his junior year, he transitioned from cross country to soccer and decided he wanted to further his play to the next level.

After looking at other college programs around the area, he really liked what he saw at UT Southern. He liked the facilities, coaches and players. After an ID camp the coach approached Lamson and made him an offer. Lawson said, “I was shocked. Felt like I accomplished a big goal I had set for myself. Might have been a little emotional but most of all I was just shocked. They are a really good program, they sign guys from all over the world and of course from the U.S. They are a hard working established program and always competing for a top spot.”

Head soccer coach Josh Mangrum commented, “I was very excited when he told me. Pretty sure I dropped whatever I had in my hands because I was so excited. He told me this year he wanted to play in college and he worked his way into that position. If we had an award for most improved, it would be him. He displayed a very coachable attitude and took very well to constructive criticism. He just wanted to get better and was always asking what he could have done to do it better. Extremely pleased with this, ecstatic. Can’t wait to go watch him play. If he maintains the mentality that got him there I can see soccer being a long term thing for him either as a player or coach. He is only limited to the limits he puts on himself.”

Lamson added, “Ever since we moved here I have really enjoyed going to school here. The staff, students, teammates all have made this a very enjoyable experience. I started loving soccer more and I wanted to take it further. Want to thank my parents, family, coach and team. They have been a big part of my motivation.”
