The Yellow Jackets football team began spring practice last week at Crisp Field.
The team is practicing Monday through Thursday after school until 4:45 p.m. before lifting weights until 5:10 p.m.
“We’ve set a few goals for our guys this spring, and we’re really focusing on the small details,” head coach Nick Bryant said. “We’re working on hand placement, correct first steps, tacking techniques and ball security. We want to get our players as many practice reps as possible.”
Despite not having his entire roster due to baseball season and no incoming freshmen allowed to practice until after eighth grade promotion, head coach Nick Bryant said 35 players are participating in the daily workouts - up 18 players from last year’s spring.
Last season’s 2023 roster featured just 35 players in total, leading to an optimistic Bryant on the program’s growth.
“My staff and I felt like we were starting from scratch when we came back in 2021, but I feel like we’ve taken some big steps forward since then,” Bryant said. “Interest in the program is up, we won five games last year, and the guys are going into the season with a lot of confidence.
The Jackets will wrap up the spring season the first week of May. Bryant hopes to celebrate the end of the early practices with a Purple and Gold scrimmage and a lift-a-thon to raise money for the program. A date and time for the event has yet to be announced.
