The Trousdale County High School baseball team recently picked up a couple of wins while losing a heartbreaker.

At Red Boiling Springs on April 18, the Yellow Jackets produced 15 hits in their 16-12 win.

The visitors plated runs in five of the seven innings for their 25th consecutive win over the Bulldogs.

“Nice to get back in the win column, but we have got to finish people off when given the chance, TCHS Coach Davy Cothron said.

“Walks and errors are a recipe for disaster, but we found a way.”

Senior Parker Day went four for four with five RBI and five runs scored.

Classmates Colton Key and Kobyn Calhoun added three and two hits, respectively.

Ayden Beal, Jake Malmin, Mason Sullins and Gage Farley also added hits.

Devan Walford was the winning pitcher, as he went five innings, recording four strikeouts and giving up five hits.

On Monday, the Jackets downed Christian Community in White House 13-1.

Beal and Walford turned in two hits apiece, as Peyton Scruggs, Day and Farley each followed with one hit.

“Good win at Christian Community,” Cothron said. “We got out early and it was good to get every player in the game.”

The following day at home against the TN Heat, the Hartsville boys and the visitors were tied at 4-4 entering the seventh inning.

The Heat scored four runs in the top of that frame, and the Jackets responded with three of their own in their at-bat.

With two outs, the coaches waved the runner from second base toward home, but a good throw and the tag applied by the catcher ended the game with the Jackets coming up short 8-7.

“A quirky play bit us, as we gave up four unearned runs, while continuing our high rate of errors,” Cothron said. “But we swung the bats well and battled back in the final frame.”

Beal, Day, Malmin and Gavin Linville each had two hits. Calhoun, Key and Walford added one hit a piece.

The Jackets are scheduled to finish their regular season Monday when they host Red Boiling Springs at 5:30 p.m.
