Tuesday Round-up: Lady ‘Landers Outlast Unaka; Lady Cyclones Unable To Rally

Cloudland 7, Unaka 3
The Lady ‘Landers outlasted Unaka for a district win on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Cloudland clinched at least a share of the District 1-A title and can claim the title outright on Thursday with a win over North Greene.

Unaka opened the scoring in the home side of the first as Katlyn Dugger crossed the plate after Mollie Buckles put the ball in play.

Cloudland countered in the top of the second as Eowyn McCoury was hit by a pitch to bring Layken Blair across the plate.

In the next at-bat, Saharra McKinney hit a triple that cleared the bases and allowed Reagan Turbyfill, Jayla Harper, and McCoury to score. Savannah McCoury hit a single to score McKinney as CHS took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the second.

The Lady Rangers were able to get a run back in the bottom of the inning as Keyona Hague scored Mattie Salyer.

Cloudland added a run in the top of the fourth as S. McCoury scored when Blair put the ball in play.

Unaka kept battling as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and brought a run across when Haley Taylor hit a single to drive Salyer across home plate. UHS, however, was unable to keep the rally going.

Neither team was able to get anything going in the fifth or sixth inning before Cloudland extended the lead when Peyton Preswood hit a sac fly to score Blair.

Unaka was unable to rally in the bottom of the seventh as CHS retired the batters in order to secure the win.

McKinney had two hits and three RBI, while S. McCoury and Blair had two hits and a RBI. Harper finished with three hits.

Preswood and E. McCoury each added an RBI.

Rea. Turbyfill picked up the win in the circle as she struck out six batters and allowed just one earned run on four hits.

Taylor and Hague each recorded a hit and an RBI for Unaka, while Buckles recorded a RBI. Stout and Dugger each added a hit.

In the circle, Profitt had five strikeouts.

Unicoi County 5, Elizabethton 2
The Lady Cyclones were unable to rally back on Tuesday night.

After Unicoi took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added four more in the top of the second, Elizabethton had to battle back from a 5-0 deficit.

The Lady Cyclones got a run back in the home side of the second when Lily McDuffie hit a single to push Mikinna Blackwell across the plate. EHS got back on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Mollie Johnson scored off a Emma O’Quinn single to close the gap.

The Lady Cyclones continued to battle but were unable to keep the rally going in the sixth and seventh innings.

Blackwell, Johnson, O’Quinn, and McDuffie each had two hits for the Orange and Black. McDuffie and O’Quinn recorded an RBI apiece.

McDuffie allowed just two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
