For any Dobyns-Bennett fans who need a chant for the Lady Indians’ next softball game, here’s one — “Home Run Hailey.”
Hailey Porter is still on the market in terms of college choices, but she might not be much longer at this rate. Porter has crushed 15 bombs her junior year, the most for any baseball or softball player in Northeast Tennessee.
Porter’s 54 runs scored are second most in NET. She’s also tied for third at 34 runs batted in, while leading D-B with her 10 stolen bases.
Porter’s 15 blasts are two more than Greeneville’s Kyla Jobe, a junior Tennessee Lady Vols softball commit. Jobe has left the yard 13 times this year while scoring an area-best 64 runs. In fact, the latter is the highest number reported among all TSSAA divisions on MaxPreps. Jobe, who’s batting .621, leads NET in RBIs, while teammate Kaley Garland and Science Hill's Maddie Diamond (9 home runs) are tied for second at 37.
Tennessee High’s Addie Wilhoit, who’s clubbed 11 home runs this year, owns Northeast Tennessee’s best batting average at .630 for the Lady Vikings. The top honor for stolen bases goes to Unaka’s Haley Taylor at 35.
STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON
Tennessee High ace Carly Compton, herself among the home run leaders with nine, easily leads Northeast Tennessee in all four major pitching categories.
In addition to her 17 wins, Compton has struck out 222 batters, 48 more than second-place Lela Byrd of Elizabethton (174). Dobyns-Bennett’s Arizona State signee Julianne Tipton has 152 Ks and 13 wins, both third in NET.
Oh, and Compton owns a 0.89 earned run average with 0.558 walks and hits per inning pitched. Tipton (1.59 ERA) ranks second in WHIP at 0.799 and third in ERA (1.59).
Cloudland’s Reagan Turbyfill (1.56 ERA), Science Hill’s Isabel Meeks (115 Ks), and Byrd are tied with Tipton for third on the wins list, behind second-place Kaylee Whitson from South Greene (15).
The complete list of NET stat leaders can be found online, with both baseball and softball stats displayed in B2 of Saturday’s print edition. Stats can be viewed on the left (desktop version) or below (mobile version).
