Isaac Campbell, Gavin Knight, Will Foster and Jaxon Woodlee were each named to the All-District 9AA Team, and head coach Brad Dees was voted Coach of the Year following a three-game stint in the district tournament on Monday.
Grundy’s season came to an end Monday night with a 12-2 loss to Cascade in the third round of the District 9AA Tournament. Peyton McGee and Foster each tallied two hits against the Champions, but the powerful Cascade lineup pounded Jackets pitching for 12 hits and 11 earned runs.
Behind the big offensive showing, CHS pitchers Jayden Hathcock and James Magee limited Grundy to just one earned run while striking out six to advance in the tournament.
GCHS won its opener 12-1 over Community last Thursday and fell 5-3 on Saturday to Forrest. The Jackets had 10 hits in the win over Community. The four all-district honorees combined for six of the hits, but the bats cooled off following the victory over the Vikings. Grundy totaled 12 hits in its final two games, yielding five runs.
Grundy finished the season with a 13-18 overall record. It’s the second year in a row the Jackets have improved their win total. After going 6-26 in 2022, the 2023 team was 9-16, and this year’s squad tacked on another four victories.
