Cloudland came up short on Thursday evening.

The Lady ‘Landers fell 2-0 to North Greene in the winner’s bracket finale of the District 1-A tournament at Unaka. With the loss, Cloudland moves into Friday’s elimination game against Unaka. North Greene secured a spot in the championship game as well as a Region 1-A berth with the win.

Runs were hard to come by on Stoney Creek Thursday evening.

Neither team was able to get anything going until the bottom of the third when Hannah Brooks hit a single to score Heidi Harmon and Matti Phillips. That gave the Lady Huskies a 2-0 lead after three complete.

Cloudland looked to battle back in the top of the fourth as Saharra McKinney recorded Cloudland’s first single and Savannah McCoury reached on an error to give CHS two runners with no outs. The runners moved on an infield fly, but the Lady ‘Landers were unable to plate the runs.

CHS saw Peyton Preswood single in the fifth with two outs but CHS was unable to keep the inning going.

The Lady ‘Lander defense held strong in the bottom of the fifth as NG got two baserunners aboard with two outs but Reagan Turbyfill recorded a strikeout to end the inning.

McKinney reached base to open the sixth for the blue and gold, but the Lady ‘Landers were unable to rally.
McKinney and Preswood each had a hit apiece.

Turbyfill struck out nine batters for the Lady ‘Landers while allowing just two earned runs on four hits.

Hannah Brooks went 3-for-3 with two RBI for North Greene. In the pitching circle, Brooks struck out 13 batters.
