CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – On Monday, May 13, Rossview High traveled to West Creek High School to take on the Coyotes in a region semifinal matchup. While West Creek’s defense held strong early on, the Hawks offense eventually broke through, which included a hat trick from Graham Duncan. Rossview went on to win the game 8-0, ending West Creek’s season.

During the opening minutes of the game, each team struggled to find the net. However, in the ninth minute of play, Joshua Villa broke through, but then the Hawks were kept quiet for the next 20 minutes. A large part of that was due to the effort from goalkeeper Alex Cruz-Lopez. West Creek head coach Craig Nakutis was proud of the fight his team showed defensively.

“Rossview’s a talented team and we got down early the first time we played them,” Nakutis told Clarksville Now. “We wanted to stay in it early, and we did that. Once you get in a hole, it’s hard to fight out of.”

While the game remained 1-0 throughout the majority of the first half, Rossview went on to score two goals before the end of the first half, pushing the score to 3-0. Then in the second half, the Hawks scored 5 additional goals to win the game 8-0, with 3 goals coming from Duncan.

“Graham is a great player,” said Rossview High head coach Seth Ramsey. “He does everything we ask, and he’s a smart player. He’s got a ton of goals for that reason.”

With the loss, West Creek’s historic season comes to an end after they saw their first district championship victory in program history this past weekend. As for the Hawks, they have a date with Clarksville High for the region championship on Wednesday, May 15, with revenge on their mind.

“It’s a new game and different day,” Ramsey told Clarksville Now. “We’re going to come out with that mindset and give our best effort.”
