Radio broadcaster Lucky Knott received a surprise when he came to work Friday morning as friends, family and colleagues at Bowman Media to celebrate his 4,000th play-by-play sports game broadcast.
The surprise celebration took place outside The Coker Building on Wilson Avenue on Friday, May 10, just before Knott’s broadcast later in the day. Commemorating the milestone of Knott’s 4,000th play-by-play sports broadcast was a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce.
After he cut the ribbon, Knott was a presented a certificate of excellence for doing play-by-play broadcasting of 4,000 sporting events.
Bowman Media General Manager Glenn Goodwin thanked Knott and said he appreciated all of his hard at the radio station as both Sports and News Director.
“I appreciate you, and all the hard work you always do,” Goodwin said. “We wanted to celebrate you.”
Knott thanked everyone and said it was an honor to have the celebration for his 4,000th game.
“I’ll say what my broadcast partner says, ‘I’m a dinosaur.’ That’s how I got into 4,000 games,” Knott said as he was met with laughs. “We have a lot of fun doing what we do, and it’s an honor to be here.”
Pete Bowman, owner of Bowman Media, said Bowman Media has been on the airwaves for 13 years, with establishing 93.9 FM The Duck in 2011 and picked up 101.5 FM The Rooster, formerly Fantasy 101.5 FM, and 95.5 and 105.1 FM Whiskey Country in 2018. Bowman said he felt privileged to be part of the fabric of the community.
“We want to make sure our listeners are taken care of,” Bowman said. “We always want to put in the best local content that we can.”
Knott has been the play-by-play voice of the Coffee County Red Raiders for over 30 years, which can be heard on 101.5 FM The Rooster. He can also be heard throughout the week broadcasting the local news on 93.9 The Duck FM, The Rooster 101.5 and 95.9 and 105.1 Whiskey Country Radio. Knott also served as the Public Information Officer for the Coffee County Sheriff's Department for four years, and taught Radio/TV for six years at Grundy County High School.
