Henry County High School's baseball team will be facing a possible elimination game on Thursday as they continue play in the state sectional tournament at Arlington.
The Patriots lost to the Arlington Tigers, 3-0, on Wednesday in the first game of the best two-of-three series. That means HCHS will have to beat Arlington twice on Thursday in order to move on to the state tournament.
With senior Truitt Webb on the mound for the Big Red on Wednesday, the Patriots stayed in the game the whole way. Webb walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, then allowed a two-run double to Britt Fowler that put the Tigers up 2-0. Arlington added a third run in the fifth inning on a home run by Jack Pitts.
Webb allowed just four hits for the game while the Patriot offense could muster just two hits, singles by Carter Hedges and Javion Boyd. The Patriots are now 24-13 for the season.
Thursday's second game in the series begins at 5 p.m. in Arlington. If Henry County wins, it would force a Game 3 Thursday night.
