CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – USA basketball has announced 44 student athletes have been selected to participate in USA Basketball Women’s U17 national team trials, including Clarksville Christian’s very own Lauren Hassell.

Hassell was one of 13 student athletes from the class of 2027 to be selected for the Olympic trails, which is set to take place at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Trails begin on May 23, and USA basketball expects for the 12-member team to be announced at the conclusion of the trials.

According to USA Basketball, the student athletes were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Developmental National Team Committee.

For the 12-member team that will be finalized after the Olympic trails, they are scheduled to travel to the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup from July 13 through 21 in Irapuato and Leon, Mexico. Before competing, the USA basketball team will reconvene for training camp in early July.

As for Hassell, throughout the 2023-24 season, she was one of the most accomplished freshmen in the country. She’s coming off a year where she played a crucial role in the Lady Centurions winning the NACA National Championship for a third straight year. As a freshman, Hassell averaged 19.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.2 blocks and 2.6 steals per game.
