Hartselle High School‘s boys golf team competed in the Class 1A-5A State Golf Tournament in Muscle Shoals, it’s first trip to state in at least nine years.

The girls golf team also advanced to state, seeking another state championship.

The tournament was held at the “Fighting Joe” Trent Jones Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday with six teams competing. The winner will be determined by the team that posts the lowest cumulative score during the 36 event.

Hartselle advanced to the state finals by winning a sectional tournament in Scottsboro with a score of 299 and finishing behind Russellville a sub-state matchup with a score of 331 earlier this week.

The team compiled a 11-3 regular season record and finished first in three of the six tournaments in which it participated.

Team members are senior Aaron Compton, juniors Robbie Fields and Garrett Reist, freshman Jake Tiffin and eighth grader Jordan Hartsell.

“This team had a great year and I feel like it can rise even higher,” said coach Chad Gladden. “A strong work ethic and a passion for the sport is what got them here. “ It’s the first team in my nine years as coach that has made it to state.”

The five teams competing with Hartselle for the state title are Russellville, Cullman, Homewood, Spanish Fort and St. Paul’s.
