Danville High School conducted camps for rising baseball and softball players Monday and Tuesday with 35 baseball players and 10 softball players participating.

The campers ranged in age from 7 to 14.

Head baseball coach Brian Ellis said baseball players participated in drills designed to help them develop fundamental skills in hitting, throwing, base running and pitching.

“We want them to use this opportunity to improve their game while having some fun,” he said. “Hopefully, they will be encouraged to continue to work hard on their own to mature and develop as players.”

Assisting Ellis as camp instructors were assistant coaches Jimmy Parker, Trai Tidwell, Craig Stover and Schuyler Forman as well as Joe Hyde, a former Danville and Calhoun Community College player.

Softball coach Savannah Chenault said building support in the community for the school’s softball program was a major factor in holding her camp.

“We want every girl in the community who loves softball to be able to play the game and have success,” she pointed out. “A big part of making that happen is getting the full support of parents and the community as a whole.”

Working with her as camp w instructors were assistant coaches Mallory George and Troy Wilkerson and returning members of the varsity and junior varsity teams.
