Russellville girls fall to Lawrence County by two-point margin

The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers played a close game against a strong Lawrence County Lady Red Devils team last Tuesday, leading for most of the game before losing by 2 points, 39-37.
The Lady Tigers led at the end of the first quarter 15-6. The Red Devils battled back in the second quarter and trailed by four to make it 25-21 at the half.
The Lady Tigers were winning throughout the third quarter, leading 35-30 at the beginning of the final quarter of the game. With only 4:51 left in the game, the Lady Tigers lost the lead to the Lady Red Devils. The Lady Tigers went cold in the fourth quarter allowing the game to get away.
Coach James Bostick had only good things to say about his team.
“We are a young team with only one senior player and we are improving every game,” Bostick said.
“We played a good game. This same Lawrence County team beat us 40 points last year.”
Ashley Dunstan led the scoring for the Lady Golden Tigers, netting 16 points in the first half and finishing the game with 22 points.
Other players on the scoreboard for the Tigers included Megan Brockway with five points, Jakari Suggs and Victoria Jackson with four points each, and Peyton Hester with two points.
The Lady Golden Tigers will face the Muscle Shoals Lady Trojans in an area game this Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. at the Russellville Middle School Gym.
