Gamble pays off for Fayetteville
Senior tight end Tyler Tuck’s twopoint reception from junior quarterback Austin Allen in overtime lifted No. 2 Fayetteville to a 29-28 upset victory over top-ranked Bentonville in the Class 7A state championship game before 4,821 Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
The two-point play shattered Bentonville’s 25-game winning streak as well as its hopes of a third state championship in four seasons.
Fayetteville finished with a 420-415 advantage in total yardage. Allen, who was named the game’s MVP, completed 27 of 41 passes for 376 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Greenwood wraps up its perfect season
Senior quarterback Hayden Smith completed 17 of 24 passes for 319 yards and 6 touchdowns as Greenwood won its second consecutive Class 5A state championship with a 53-11 victory over Batesville on Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
Greenwood (14-0), which came in ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, completed its first perfect season and claimed its sixth state championship. All have come since 2000.
Junior wide receiver/outside linebacker Drew Morgan was named the game’s most valuable player after catching 6 passes for 161 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed 1 time for 14 yards.
