LR Hall too tall of a task for Conway

— Little Rock Hall used a sizable rebounding edge and limited turnovers Saturday to defeat Conway 68-50 in the final of the Wampus Cat Invitational.

The undersized Lady Cats (4-2) had more than held their own against a much taller West Memphis team in the semifinals but couldn’t match up with the Lady Warriors, who had three players with at least 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“At the halftime, we focused on telling them Conway was getting too many rebounds on the offensive end,” Little Rock Hall Coach Selita Farr said. “I thought that was a big plus, that we got more physical underneath.”

Little Rock Hall (5-2) led just 31-28 at halftime, but Conway went cold in the third quarter and the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Cats 19-8. Conway got no closer than 11 points in the fourth quarter, and Hall led by as many as 22.

“We couldn’t score. It’s real simple,” Conway Coach Ashley Nance said. “We don’t have a lot of scorers, and it’s something we’re going to struggle with all year.”

Tyler Scaife led Hall with 25 points and11 rebounds.Tierra Coffey had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Kanesha Woods and Katelyn Weber had 10 points each.

BENTON 42, WEST MEMPHIS 23

Allison Reynolds led the Lady Panthers with 11 points as Benton beat West Memphis in the third-place game.

Madison Brooks added 10 for Benton, which held the Lady Devils to one point in the second quarter and three in the fourth.

ROGERS HERITAGE 56, SPRINGDALE 44

Brittany Ward scored 23 points, including 17 from the free-throw line, to lead Rogers Heritage (8-2) past Springdale (3-5) in the fifth-place game.

Ward made 7 of 8 free throws over the final four minutes to seal the victory.

Brittany Jurgens led Springdale with 17 points.
